A good buddy recently purchased a Hog Island bote and since we had little previous rowing experience, we(he) has spent the second half of the summer figuring it out.  There have been some misadventures along the way, but on the tailwater we frequent, we can make the run without much worry.  So, we took off late Saturday to camp and get ready for a full day on Sunday.

On the way up, we saw some random gas station DSFK

No generation in the morning meant we would have plenty of time to wade before we floated.  Swinging soft hackles was on the menu and the fish were cooperative

Bote is great.  Pretty much indestructible(we have tested this).  It feels a little heavier that others, but it weighs pretty close to Hydes etc.  He got a good deal, some fool bought it after he had been fly fishing for 6 months and then realized he wasn't all that into flyfishing ???   It's a year old and he got it for around 7500.  I think they are 10-11k new.

Man that's great!

Is that the South Holston River?  I was up there last Saturday to watch the NASCAR race in Bristol.  Git er' done!

I am glad that old iron bridge is still there.  On my first trip to the SOHO many moons ago I parked at a church on the east side of the river and spent the night with cot and sleeping bag on that bridge.  It was a relaxing snooze for sure.

Pretty Fish for sure.
Your buddy did well by purchasing a Hog Island.  Best Floaty Boat out their in my opinion.

I was just knocking around this weekend and went by the Step Grates.  What a Zoo :o :o
At least 20 guys on the Grates and when TVA turned the water on early , they came hauling ass off the grates and at least 12 of them were dragging stringers of trout. My guess is that 60 - 80 trout bit the dust right there.  Some of them were no more than 5 inches long

There were a lot more at the grates when I got there, that pic was right before they turned the water on.   I saw about the same amount of fish being hauled off through the parking lot.  Not sure what the limit is, but one dude had about 10-12 rainbows  I can understand the spin fisherman, but was surprised to see so many people "fly fishing" while standing there.  Zoo for sure.
