NC is offering IDs free of charge I believe

Free?  Free for the individual or I guess the individual could go to the NC DMV and pay for a photo ID (I think around $10 in VA).  But what are you NC taxpayers shelling out for these "free" IDs – the cost to implement, educate, and the direct cost to produce the things?  I am shocked that you North Carolinians would approve such silly waste of state funds.  You guys must be loaded!

If this country is the old dog then it for sure need's some new tricks. We have all seen and experienced what both of the current inbred parties have to offer so, let us pray. It is a start to see more and more people finding fault with their party of choice.

In a 'I had a dream' moment...
One way to get us back on track is to have 'we the people' run things.
Get a number of select people with the smarts, breeding and financial backing to run for the top offices. Since every politician I can think of these days is good at fabrication and disinformation, find the people out there who have the three attributes noted above but also have a tremendous love of country and who have morals enough to try to do the right thing for this country and her people each and every time.
These people are out there but because they have standards and morals they stay as far away from the rat's nest of politics as they can.
Have these patriots play the say "yes sir" game and snuggle up to their party chiefs.  As in todays politics, they'll also promise anything and everything to those who hold the purse strings to fund campaigns so they extract enough out of them to convince their party and the voters they are the right person for the job. Read that: They're good party idiots.

When they secure high office ranking call a national press conference and yell at the top of their lungs, "Psych!" and state...
We're a new breed in the Capital and we don't take bribes. It has proven to slowly but surely cause grave destruction to this free nation.
We have also enacted the flat tax or similar that all of you... well most of you know is right for Americans and America.
We have ditched the old, wasteful campaign-until-the-nation-pukes model of getting elected to something a lot more sane. The monies used for a campaign will only be the amount individual American citizens contribute to the effort. Seeing as how a right-leaning supreme Court decided that corporations are people too, we'll keep that in play. Each 'person' can only contribute, say, up to $25.00 per year things should get on a bit more level playing field and the graft and corruption we've come to expect should taper down rather quickly. Campaigns will be short and concise and people will still get elected.
We will hold ourselves liable and accountable for any blatant lies we tell after the campaign we did to get elected is over.
We will make 'America First' not just a snazzy campaign slogan thought up in a ritzy Madison Avenue office but a slogan that will be the cornerstone on every decision we make...

While enjoying the evening under the carport at The Redbrick discussing politics and why politicians and their parties do what they do lately a real old-timer spoke up and said it's a proven fact from over the past few decades that no matter what kind of bullshit they put us and this country through the people won't do a damn thing about it. They'll gripe and whine and bitch about it, point fingers at the other guy then between reality TV shows and sucking down another brewski they'll turn on the news that tells them what they want to hear. The old man nailed it if you ask me.
If we ever get someone running with even a touch of real patriotism and who puts country ahead of party, that person is already escorted towards the back of the bus. Let that person say what the problems are and then say what needs to be done about them get some press and momentum in popularity then his own party puts him on their hit list. A quick and easy way to shut him up unless he too tells the people what they want to and come to expects to hear, label him a nut-case then cut him off from party support. He should know that you can't make it to the very top of your party unless you have proven yourself to be the best at ass-kissing, boot-licking and brown-nosing. In a real world, them's some fucked up qualities for earning someone's respect or vote.

In a nutshell... we has met the enemy and he is us.

You know midge, that's a very good way at looking at it. I must say, I agree with that a lot. I still think that we need to post sentry's around the house, we could certainly use a some cleaning up inside. The patriots need to regain control!!
