Any suggestions on areas to hit up?  Thanks!

I am in a similar situation as you. Looking for places to take my raft fly fishing. Info seems to be coming your way very slowly here so I am going to go against the current.

Head down to Bryson City and camp at Deep Creek. Hike it and fish one day. Tube the section where all that is if you want to relax or have family with you. Tsali mountain bike trails are not far south from there. Nantahala Outdoors is a big rafting outfit nearby if you like that. Get Eugene Shuler, local guide, to tak you for a float on the Tuckasseggee. Great weekend trip waiting on you in Bryson City.

Head up to the New River near West Jefferson (near Boone) and camp at the state campground. Very nice place right on the river. Rent canoes and use the shuttle. Two places up there that do this, Zooloes (msp?) and another, can't recall names. Smallmouth bass and very relaxing and scenic float. This would likewise be a great weekend trip.

In either case, get out and go somewhere and have fun.

In all seriousness, like I said earlier, hit up a local fly shop.  Tell them what you are looking to fish for and they should help you out.

I laughed.  FYI, Eugene isn't very liked around here.

This is what you should do.

I didn't know this, but fished with Eugene twice. Got into some fish both trips. Super nice guy. Send me PM with the scoop if you got the time. Very surprised to think someone wouldn't like Eugene. My experience with him, top shelf.

For hitting up the fly shops, this is good move for sure. They will point you in the right direction most every time. They need your support of course.

When fishing, a person ought to carry a flask of whisky in case of snakebite. Furthermore, he ought to also carry along a small snake.

Thought this was a fly fishing forum. Sounds like school girl banter. Someone should at least let me in on the joke. I have got enough well intentioned pm's to know there are some good folks on here. Otherwise I wouldn't bother asking or visiting this forum. What am I missing here? Just trying to learn more about fly fishing opportunities in our area. Had a nice trip in NE Tenn the other week. Taking the wife, dog, and 6 month old camping and fishing Friday at Wilson Creek. There is some good to be had on forums like this and the one linked above. I just fail to see where the clicky BS factors into fly fishing. In either case, some of you guys represent this forum poorly.

Its a long drawn out story, but Shuler banned a bunch of people from his site for petty reasons.  It got ugly, names were called,  and a lot of people, even if they weren't banned, left his site.  I'm sure he's a fine guide, but his reputation is not all that great in a lot of circles.  I don't personally know him other than what I saw him do to a bunch of people I know.  Most came here to the "low rent district".   It was a long time ago, and for the most part over.   Reasonable people aren't going to hotspot places for you.  Glad you got a few PM's.

This might not be the place for you if you get your feelings hurt easily.  Also, didn't you get a list of rivers to float in an earlier post?

You are correct; it is very analogous to school girl banter, at least from what I remember from my school days.  And I am unconditionally guilty of adding to the mockery!

This forum also represents some of its members very poorly.

No worries, this ain't the real world.

Good luck to you and your family on your fishing quests.

That last part is critical so that we get your tax dollars here in Asheville, it is the only thing keeping us afloat.

I don't really know what poorly representing a forum means.  Can you elaborate?

Thanks for the info and PM's. Not sure how the hell I was supposed to know it prior to being told. Perhaps you guys just start a fuck Eugene sticky or something. My experience with him was on two floats on the Tuck. Sounds like others here have a more checkered history. I even got accused of being a double agent. Ha ha.  Saunders? Crazy shit guys. I came here to talk about fly fishing. Finding fishing buddies seems unlikely, but I do enjoy reading the old threads and checking out the fish porn. Very appreciative of the float suggestions and PM's.

whatever it means, I'm sure we can do it well if it involves doing something poorly.   :P

Do you think that this forum exists to serve your interests?

It doesn't.

The forum members are not a commodity.  They do not earn profit from your "patronage" of the site.  In fact, they are people just like you who have no direct ownership/connection to the site.  If you think that you should be entitled to having your hand held in order to catch a fish, then I suggest that you continue going down the path you took before and pay for a guide.  They are actually a business that provides their services for a fee, unlike members of an online forum.   They expect it from you.

I didn't have a dog in this fight at first.  But after I saw you cry about posters who were not willing to jump in line to be at your service, it pissed me off.  The reason people treated you like they did is because we see this all of the time.  A new guy shows up and expects to have everything handed to them, then gets upset when it doesn't happen and throws a tantrum.  This site has a large population of folks who don't care to deal with that scenario on a regular basis.  They'll ride you hard and see if you actually give a crap before they'll accept you.  It keeps out the riff-raff.  I truly think you would be better off spending your time and energy on a different forum that is more amicable to your demographic.
