Well....what a weekend!  It started with me standing on the banks of the Saluda waiting for Cam and the crew to show up so we could float for trouty fish when I got a call..." Tom...Jack just rolled his camper on I-77"  I was 15 minutes away...so I headed up there straight away!  It was'nt pretty...." Oh yeah...that'll buff right out". Thankfully we were able to convince Uncle Jack to get his belongings and still come on down for the weekend instead of going home upset and depressed. It did'nt take long for us to "laugh it off". Jack...we're all just glad you were O.K.!

We got back to the campground and as some of the others rolled in we  set up our "home for the weekend" ....

We had a good dinner of bacon wrapped filets and shrimp and scallop kabobs and baked taters! Thanks for bringing up the seafood Don!  Made plans to float the Savannah in the morning...got up to a good breakfast...

And got a very late start floating!

The wind was blowing straight back up river most of the day making it very difficult to fish the wiggle minnow...or any other fly for that matter...and while the other guys caught some fish on the spinning rod...I got the big goose egg. I will admit though even when I get skunked....its still an O.K. day on the Savannah. I did enjoy meeting Eddie and Zino and just enjoying some laughs. We got back in well after dark to enjoy some gumbo....Thanks JT!
Nando stacked firewood in the pit and Little Cherokee lit it up! (really!... you might be able to see him in the middle of the fire)

We decided to go back Sat. morning after a good breakfast by Wes for another try hoping for a better day...we still got a little bit of a late start.....but I did'nt care once I found my honey hole!!  I caught a few fish on the way down...

Including a few pretty redbreast....

and a couple of stray largemouth....

I watched on as Eddie landed a nice one on a clouser.....

but I found a seam next to the bank with largemouth and smallies stacked up thicker than I've ever seen trout stacked up! I caught (and or hooked) about 40 fish in about a two hr. period....never moving! When they would chase my minnow back towards the boat it was'nt one or two...it was a dozen! I hooked at least 6 that went 5 pds and one of them was a largemouth pushing 6! every one of the big fish manages to spit the lure after a couple of leaps....but I landed tons of fish in the one to one and a half pound range! They were all bloated with crawfish and minnows.

I also saw Eddie land another monster on the other side of the river! He finally made his way over to the honey hole about the time they quit biting...I had worn most of them out....I finally told him I was going to pull anchor and float about 30 yards down stream and find some more stupid fish...and sure enough he got to witness me hooking into a 5 pound smallie that made a good couple of leaps and just like the ones before him...spit the lure and went back to his feeding lane!

I moved on down to catch up with the rest of the group and left Eddie there with his mouth watering!   Got some good sun that day!....

Had some more good laughs....and came back to one heck of a good dinner....Croakers low country boil! Don that was good chit!!  We enjoyed another good campfire, cold beer and some good stories and laughs. Next morning everyone got up and packed to go home....after most everyone had pulled out except Don and Eddie...our host Al came over to give the girls a little joy ride.....

Al is one hell of a nice guy...he thouroughly appreciated the flies...thanks Don and JT!!  He said he sincerely hopes we will come back sometime and hopefully he will be able to fish with us! He already had guests coming in Sun afternoon for the wedding next weekend.

It was great to see everyone again and to meet the new guys...Eddie,Wes and Zino...and the womens. Nando...E is gettin big!  Thank you all for coming down and thanks to everyone for pitching in with meals and clean-up ....aside from Jacks mishap it was a great weekend!

My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

You came back after dark and there was still food? That has never been my experience at a PFF.
