Saw the Sony Action Camcorder on the moldy chum this morning and have been doing some reading on it.  It won't be released until the end of Sept, but from lookin at the specs does anyone foresee any issues with it?  Seems pretty legit and looks like it'll be a good competitor with the Go Pros.  If it gets good reviews I may put it down on my Xmas list and try talking my wife into getting it for me.

Here is the specs off their website.  Looks like it copied and pasted correctly.

I think the GoPro takes beautiful movies and stills but, if it could just not give the fish bowl effect I think I would be more happy with it. I did not see that much fish bowl effect with the Sony

the sony has the same sort of extreme wide angle lens, looks like they are going after the GoPro market.

looks pretty cool, I wonder how batter life on the Sony compares to the GoPro...

I like the fact that you can overcrank it for quality slo-mo, but right now I'm satisfied with the Oly TG-1 for shooting any video that I need...???? One thing that I don't like about either the GoPro or this Sony is that they require an external housing for waterproofing....

The major problem with any HD pos camera is that they use a fair amount of lossy compression.

Also requires a lot of storage, and processor power to edit the footage...

Yeaha, the Pentax that I have is supposed to shoot in HD but man does it suck.

It also looks like the Sony doesn't have zoom capabilities.  But then again its made to be mounted to a helmet and not filming rising trout....  I'll be curious to see how it competes with the GoPro.

One of these will come in handy when I start parachuting into bluelines.   V:;

I like where your head is at, Ben.
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

that JVC is more expensive, but it is self-contained waterproof design, shock proof too.

I'm not in the market for either at this time.
