Great opportunity to help or observe the DGIF folks as they do their annual sampling / shocking at 10 different sites along the Smith River. They will be there from about 10:00 am Tuesday, August 28th until finished on Thursday, August 30th, 2012.

VA DGIF Biologist Dan Wilson and crew always welcome your help and your questions.  If you want to help, don't forget your waders.

Scenario depends on generation schedule but they generally start up near the dam in the mornings and down below Bassett in the afternoons. They will start behind the Mirror Factory at about 10:00 am on Tuesday, Aug 28th if generation allows. Look for several DGIF vehicles at bridges or easy river access locations and you will be in the right spot.

Plan this year calls for relocating some of the browns from the more prolific sites to downstream of the Martinsville Dam where there is much more food. (More food - more growth - better fishery)

Bump to the top before I get out of here on my way to Alaska - Let's get some folks out there to help / observe  when DGIF does this sample. Need some photos and reports so folks can see there are fish in the Smith.
