When the conditions are right (higher, or swifter water), it's deadly.

Pansy spinning reels brought on the LHW.
Yeah those beers are ghey. Good AM beers, though.

It is my understanding that "real men" of old used to pull their puds in their bandanas and switch hands to avoid undue hair growth in any one palm, much like you do while fishing.  As nostalgic as I am for the good old days, I am happy to say there's been wonderful advancements in the skills of masturbation and fly line retrieval.

Plus, if you were sincere on following the old with the glass and Medalist, then you'd be drinking Ballantine or Hamm's on the stream, and not these contemporary brews.

I had planned to go low but was concerned about the flows, so I headed upriver for the afternoon.
Sunny skies and in the low 70s made the walk in much more comfortable than in the heat of the summer.
I jumped in at the head of a run and noticed that a gaggle of Canada Goose had settled in the pool bellow and beyond them was another angler whose car I had noticed in the parking lot. So he was high holed by them and me.

He gave up and hiked on out, I assume back to the car, but he could have hit another stretch.

There were a lot of midges in the air and I watched a dragonfly snatch them off the surface as they emerged. My what keen eyes they have!

I worked the water with a dry in all the places that had proven to hold trout in the past but they weren't looking up this day. Then I noticed a little rise at the tail-out and placed a cast in front of the rise and let it drift down, the trout struck the fly and I had a fish on the line. It was a perfect little brown trout.

That was the only fish I caught, I did see a couple of other risers but they weren't interested in my offerings.

So I drank a beer or two and turned over rocks and chased after flying midges and mayflies for photo opportunities.

The pics sum up the afternoon...

The serenity was broken by the roar of jest as they flew over the treetops.

snatched this bwo off of a rock that it had landed on, sorry I crumpled the wings...

since I don't have any #32 midges I threw this CDC BWO emerger
