Sedition and Pockets

Been on the road most of May, having to sneak fishing days in where I could.

Started out in Emerald Isle where my aunt was getting married, between wedding prep, obligatory family time, and my dad ending up in the hospital, didn't get on the beaches as much as I would have liked.  Probably wouldn't have mattered, water temps were still in the 60s, the bait wasn't around, and the donks weren't in the surf zone.

After the wedding I stuck around for a couple extra days and met up with a Wild Saffa to celebrate his barfday with a charter.  Went out with the hopes of letting some amberjacks spin a big reel backwards, but the reef donkeys were moody and beat down by the bait boys.  But the King of the Brus managed to walk into a bonus brown fish.  Guide rocked up with a Comically Small Net, which the fish promptly busted through.  But judicious handlining got it in the boat.  Hatch with the ugliest splatter ass "special edition" reel I ever seent lmfao

There were some AJs hanging with the cobe, but while Mike fought his fish in, another boat rolled in and spotlocked right on the school.  Fuckin' rude!

No one in the boat really wanted to try and fish around the googans, so we ran over the CALO to check and see if anything was on the shoals.  Choppas everywhere, ready to eat a popper until we literally got bored and headed back to trailer up the boat.

I heard some good reports from Cousin Drew down in SC, so I made the return to Asheville via the Low Country.  The marsh donkeys weren't going completely gangbusters, but I did find a few willing players on shrimp poppers.

Finally got home for a couple of days (boring!), but had two days of ETN floats lined up for my own birthday.  Rolled up to Bluff City on Thursday to find thousands of carp tailing right by the ramp.  Not in the plan, but we'll take it!

Bopped up the Holston to try and get on some laker pods.  I still suck at this kind of fishing and got my ass handed to me by the two megs I came tight to.

Trailered the driftboat over to Taug to catch the evening release and seek out the meat eaters.  Unfortunately, generation was dirty AF and no dice.

Got up at O-dark-thirty on Friday to see if we could find a low light low water streamer bite and found some trout running shad in the lower SoHo.  Stuck a few respectables, but missed a couple of dawgs.

Spotted a big blowup on the bank and cast to the wake.  THAT'S NOT A TROUT!

Spent the rest of the day looking for more stripes, and found like, 60, but couldn't tease out another eat before it was time to head home.

Cheers!
