If your recommended reading list includes Chris Hedges and you get your news from places like truth dig.com, you might want to go easy on the "koolaid", "faux news"' and echo chamber comments...j'is sayin.

He wasn't referring to communities.   He was talking about government.

Bingo, so Bullship, please explain to me how the government helped you start your own business.

That's the reason why alot of people are upset with Obama's statement.

Ill take that challenge.

As an independent contractor I am essentially my own business.  In other words I have to pay taxes and Social Security after I get my check.

I drive on the roads to and from the river.
I guide fishermen on public water ways and lands.
My costumers camp in public campgrounds near the rivers that attract them.
I use electricity and phone lines and internet, a lot of the infrastructure of that was built by the public.  As well as the research that went into it.
I use WebGIS maps to find creeks and rivers as well as take outs and land owners.
I received an education through government loan programs.

etc...

Indeed Snag.    All of these services "for the people" were paid for "by the people".    Sound familiar?

So I went to college on a state lottery funded scholarship, where do I fit in?

Your upper middle class education was funded by the vice and desperation of the poor.

Did you miss that thread?

Disclaimer: I like you Ben but we are giving shit on this thread and you jumped in  ;)

Are you referring to the line of clothing and urban wear known as FUBU?

Big J

All I'm saying is that if the government is saying you can't run a business without there help, it sounds a lot like socialism.  And you know how socialism scares us Fox Newsians.

That is not what was said.

And everything scares you Faux Newsians.  It's the kingdom of fear that Hunter Thompson spoke of on Letterman shortly before he put a bullet in his head.

Hunter Thompson, now Gore Vidal.   You must be a wreck Snag.    :D

Here ya go J

so was "THAT" referring to a business or the roads and bridges and infrastructure that was just mentioned.

taken in context with the rest of the speech....

well you know what I think

It was still pandering to the crowd.  Its called campaigning in some circles. Like when Mittens murders America The Beautiful.

But I think a mountain has been made of a mole hill here...

Do y'all say that down in Georgia?

flatlander

According to Jonathan Chait, the reason y'all are so pissed off about Obama's "you didn't build it" comment is because he said it in "black dialect".  Fucking racists!

Aka

Come the F#ck on now. You have a picture of some backwoods dipshit standing within 20 feet of a public right of way from which he directly benefits.

1.   Allows interstate commerce including but not limited to:
1.1 free and open lanes of travel for transport of goods and material.
1.2 regulated safety & oversight including:
1.2a public safety officers funded by local, state and federal funds.
1.2b weight and measure stations to control load weights and protect the public's investment.
1.2c DOT oversight to protect the public's safety and monitor drivers logs.

His business is next to ranching and mineral extraction when tax payer dollars are concerned. The absolute cost of timber rights on tax payers is substantial and it would seem this bagger of tea is receiving a direct benefit of those subsidized costs as his costs of materials is artificially lower than they would be if his suppliers were not receiving welfare.

Who built the equipment, who built the bridges, who built the asphalt companies, the steel companies, the private contractors, etc.  The key principle that Mr. President forgets is everything is funded by "We the People".  That is the issue.  Government just takes our money to use for public use.  So no, the Government didn't build all that.
