I will come clean here, I never target them coz I am a trout snob, Franzen was kind enough to "put me on one" on Colorado this past week.

Franzy also caught one

Now if I can land one of those cannon grassies that live in the pond across the street, that'd be the shit /'/

I like how you hide your faces holding up those turd-eaters. It's like Wilson (Home Improvement) goes fly-fishing. lol
Nice inland Redfish, there.

the north country

had my annual trip to northern NY these past couple of weeks and needless to say, it was hot. my grandparents are nestled in the foothills of the adirondacks, northern side, and my uncle lives in the state park. needless to say there are fish in those parts, usually trout but this year was a major bust. the black flies came early this year with the mild winter and although i wasnt expecting much out of going in the dead of summer, usually things don't suck this badly. i arrived to find my creeks shrivled and withered hardly looking to support much trout life. its ok because down the street is the big water, and while it doesnt have trouts it does have a healthy population of smallies, pike, and walleye. hell sometimes you might even find a stray bow in there too. the water isn't too shabby looking either...

this is where they all go to when things get dry.wading isnt really an option, plus the mud would suck you right up.

back on the big water

I also spent alot of time catching these for the freezer.

I decided i would take the little one down to the place where they live and see if i could find him the boss man.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I caught a dinky smallie on the fly pole. put a hook through his lips with ALOT of weight (its a forking whirlpool, aint gonna happen on a fly n!n) and handed the rod off to the kid. i watched as his rod tip started to thrash up and down, grabbed the pole and hit the fucker right in the lips. The boy reeled him up from the depths and he started to become visible. i wasnt expecting this....

my grandfather has lived here his entire life, 65 plus years. he has never seen a walleye this big come from that river. the kid is getting him mounted, id rather have him become a fisherman than have a good meal.  -0-

so the rest of the trip mostly went like that. i would fish the big water and then after a day or two be forced to try for trout. needless to say i was in a constant state of denial. next time i go back it will not be in the asscrack of summer. ill let the pics do the rest....

Dang McLovin.  Smallies, brown trout, brookies, musky (I think), and walleye all in the same trip is epic.   /'/

Here is a photo dump from the last weekend.  Nothing compared to McLovin's report, but this thread could use more pictures  -0-

Pictures from a local pond.  Nothing big but still fish on a fly.

All weekend I've been moving into my new apartment.  Lovin having a pond a short walk from my apartment.  My soon to be sister in law wanted to go fishing so her mom bought her the infamous barbie rod at Walmart.  She's funny though and had a blast catching her first fish.

I even got to fish a little in between casting her barbie rod for her.

Took my Dad on his first raft trip on the New River on Monday.  The water was way higher than I expected (4040 cfs) due to the recent rains and dirty.  We fished an 8 mile stretch and managed 40 smallies and 15 rock bass between us.  He caught most of his on crawdad crankbaits and I used heavily weighted buggers on my 8 wgt. for mine.  We had a ball but never got any lunkers, all the fish were 10 - 15 inches.  He had a good day and that's all that mattered to me!

It's an easy spot to get to, just follow the signs.  If you see "eat mo' pussy", you've gone too far.
