Jumping on a plane Saturday morning; destination Yellowstone backcountry. Have more shit stuffed in my pack than I thought possible. Bringing a 7'6'' 4wt,  9' 5wt, and my entire arsenal of flys even though I won't use 1/10th of them. Stocked up on the hoppers, beetles, ants and other various attractors. Only things left on the list to pick up when I land is bear spray, stove fuel, and liquor.

For anyone who has been before me what items, flys, or gear came in critical for you that I am probably forgetting? Any tips for a Yellowstone/Western newb? Preciate it

Plenty of pics forthcoming upon my return.

since you have more s***t packed...make sure you have some toilet paper as the weeds out that way are sure scratchy.

just kidding have a great time, it is incredible country.

the northeast part of the park is great.

the crowds don't show up til later so get up early and enjoy the quietness and then fish late when they are all gone.  major difference in how you feel about the experience.

Why don't these stupid articles show mugshots or pictures of the convicts on the loose?

Hope this ends in a tactical deployment from a nasty ass malinois, or they end up like this.

Just got home a couple hours ago but those mugshots were posted at every general store, gas, and ranger station in the park while we were there. I was more worried about the black bear that was walking through Slough Creek campground the day before we arrived. Epic week and I will post some pics in a day or 2 when I gain some motivation and brain cells back. Going to be hard to hit the Smith this weekend after so many big hungry Oncorhynchus clarkii bouvieri but I'm sure a week behind the desk will get me moving to the cool waters again.

Finally got around to getting the pics off the camera and gathering some other shots by friends. Ended up not going into the backcountry after somehow lucking into two spots right beside eachother in Slough Creek campground as soon as we arrived Sunday morning. Glad we stayed put because there was so much epic fishing to be done in that corner of the park. Anyway I'll quit yappin and get to the suck. Figured I would just continue this thread with the TR instead of starting a new one.

Drove up through the Tetons sunday morning.

Hit Soda Butte the first afternoon and the bottom fell out. Only a few brought to hand but I had a nasty little surprise when we got back to camp. Storm blew my tent (stakes and all) with my sleeping bag and all of my clothes for the week into Slough Creek while I was gone. Fortunately the awesome Norwegian neighbors saved it for me. Ended up sleeping in the car and drying everything out the next day so no big deal but not a great way to start the trip.

Redeemed it by hiking into Slough Creek second meadow the next day. Easily the most beautiful place I have ever fished. I missed countless cutts pulling the fly right out of their mouths because they rise and take the fly so slowly and the water is crystal clear but many brought to hand by everyone. Pulled this little guy out of the V.I.P. pool in first meadow on the 4th cast on a rest break after the rough part of the trail.

Walked a few more miles past the crowds on first meadow and came to this sign

We had second meadow entirely to ourselves for the rest of the day and the suck started and just kept on the rest of the week.

We damn near cleared the Roosevelt lodge general store out of this stuff over the course of the week.

Ended up catching fish out of Slough below and through the campground, Soda Butte, the Lamar after it cleared, and the Gardiner one afternoon after some site seeing and beer drinking around Mammoth/Gardiner. Needless to say but Yellowstone is the most beautiful place I have ever been and the fishing is awesome. If you haven't been you need to go. More shots from others cameras to follow.

Nice sized cuts. 'c;

When I fished out there last summer, all the cuts I caught were about the size of Basin Creek rainbows.   b';

I was on a kind of soft sandy spot and I think the 50mpg gusts from the thunderstorm just ripped the stakes out. Was a nasty storm with bad lightning and hail.

Its an REI camp dome so not the best tent in the world and the rainfly design acts like a sail if the wind catches it right. Ended up placing some heavy river stones over the stakes and had not trouble the rest of the week.
