spring fever..
« on: March 19, 2010, 09:25:41 AM »
yesterday A friend of mine managed to skin out on work early so we could meet up, fish the afternoon and hopefully cast dries during an evening hatch..we got to the river around 2:00 and the fishing was pretty tough..there were mixed hatches of at least 4 different bugs, but the rising fish were seeming to key on something other than what my buddy was throwing..
regardless he was wanting to throw dries so he continued with that..meanwhile I was nymphing, with droppers of some midge, and micro may patterns I've been playing with..my friend displayed some awesome casting skills delivering a dry to some risers more than 75 feet away..he even managed to hook up to a couple of the fish, but at that distance just couldn't keep them buttoned..I was having no luck with the nymphs I was throwing so on a whim I switched my point fly to a small realistic looking mink nymph and immediately hooked up with a good fish..on the light tippet it was an intense fight with the fish making several long runs..I was lucky my friend was there with a net because I often don't carry one,(this being one of those times) and would not have landed the fish without him..after basking in the glory of our team effort we headed back to the truck, enjoyed a few home brews, fished a little bit more and called it a day..not many fish caught, but the beautiful weather and the good company made it a great day to be on the water...

here are a few pics of the day..

Beautiful fish.

Nice pics and I can't wait to actually be able to cast to a fish 75' away and hook one.  That hasn't happened since I first fish the Chattooga some eons ago.

Gotta love those "blow off work for fishin'" afternoons, doncha?

Poor casting placement or not, that's a sweet pic of the top and bottom of the line mid-loop...and some goregous water.  Nice bow too.  0--0
