Looking for Advice on a Lamiglas Honey...
« on: March 17, 2010, 13:31:57 PM »
I've now returned two FL843-3 Lamiglas blanks because the tip sections were not straight.  This is the 7' 3 weight 3 piece fiberglass honey blank they produce.  They called me last week and said that they have nothing to exchange for my blank because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE BLANKS IS CROOKED.  And now the FL843-3 is being discontinued.   o-o

I can swap it for another model though, and they still make the 7' 3 weight in a two and six piece.  I was originally going to go six piece, but thought all those spigot ferrules could make for a clunky rod.

Can anyone speak on this, or the two piece blank, from experience?

I prefer two piece rods whether fiber or graphite, seem to be smoother.  I like them no bigger than 8'6 and no smaller than 6'6.  Depends on what your gonna be fishing.  Sounds to me your looking for smaller creek rod, two piece would be the way to go.  But, I have fished a 4 piece rod 9' and it was smooth.  It was a friends Sage, think it was about $650.  Something I just dont pay for a rod.  Hope this helps.  Look at the Diamondback fibers, sweet!  EZFlish.com has some in the sizes your looking.  Also, if your wanting to build and get blanks....Hook & Hackle make very nice blanks, very affordable....my friend swears by them.

Thanks TF, this is going to be a brookie rod...and I'm pretty set on the Lami 7' 3 weight.  Just curious how "clunky" this specific six piece is, the pack-ability is very appealing for my needs...

I had a 7' 3wt 3pc Lami that I recently sold- it was a great rod with no blems or sets to the blank. I have heard of the issues with the blanks of late and it is bad to hear. I like the spiggots on the multi piece versions- looks cooler and seems to be less dead spotting. I have handeled a 6pc lami and it was still a nice casting rod- but a little quicker than the 3pc with all the joints.

I have a 7'6" Steffen rod that is a real sweetheart- much better taper than the lami imo- you may look into one of these as you may be able to pick one of these blanks up for a little more.
