Steelehead and Alaska
« on: March 06, 2010, 13:28:52 PM »
Getting ready the end of April to head back to southwest Alaska to spend a week aboard the Adventurous chasing steelhead.  Found my pics from three years ago and thought you might enjoy.  I just hope this year is half as good.  You live on the boat which moves around, drink quite a bit, eat FRESH seafood all the time and then spend all day on a stream somewhere that you can only get to by jet skiff.  Amazing stuff.

Nothing like being left standing on a floating piece of ice to get some for cocktails.  Of course always take a flyrod with you in case a whale or something comes by.

damndest thing, made a martini with 1000 year old ice and although the temp was in the 40's it lasted three days....talk about dense.....

This year leaving from Petersburg and going down to Wrangell.  They explored some last year and found some new streams that were very good.  You are in the middle of nowhere litterally.  It is certainly quite a trip but if 6 guys split it it is a fair deal.

After a few weeks of steeleheading they do the king salmon thing.  I'm sticking with the steelehead.

One more fish.  As I was running like hell downstream I yelled to Captain Travis which way as I approached a fork in the stream...left if you can he yelled back and somehow I guided him that way.  Afterward I saw if he had gone right he was heading for a bunch of deadfall in the stream and that would have been that!

Great photos - Heading that way myself this year for another "do it yourself" adventure.

Like you said "work like hell, establish some priorities, save your pennies and with a little luck anyone can do it"
