Hawaii
« on: February 25, 2010, 23:54:02 PM »
Got back from Hawaii last week. It was my wife's R & R so we stayed on Waikiki and did touristy things for the most part. I did bring a rod and managed to get into some fish. I was catching a lot of cornetfish and lizardfish-Hawaii bycatch-but I did manage to catch 3 bonefish and lose a bigger one that broke me off when I tried to slow it down. There's a real nice flat off Hickham AFB if anyone gets out there. I had it mostly to myself too. I caught the bones blindcasting out on the edge. A more skilled sight fisher could have cleaned up though. I am sold on the bonefish and I hope to fish for them again some day. Next time I fish for them I'm going to really focus on the spot and stalk fishing. It was fun but I was spooking a lot of fish.
