New Rod (old) T&T
« on: January 19, 2010, 23:14:05 PM »
I've been waiting for this rod, with great excitement and it finally arrived this morning. I have always admired the craftsmanship of Thomas and Thomas bamboo rod, and this rod is no exception.

It's a Classic model 8ft 5wt rod weighing in at 3-3/4oz, with nickle silver hardware, that had been finely crafted in the T&T shop. Every thing about this rod, from the guide wraps to the cork grip is done with great detail and diligence to the craft of building a cane rod. The cane is done in a medium dark color and is impregnated for protection against the elements. Both tips are marked for easy identification, so the tips can be rotated out to even ferrule wear.

I plan to fishing this rod sparingly, but I will fish it. Two years ago I cast this rod at Al's house, and was very impressed with the smooth action and line control.
It was plastic line at the time, and I plan to put a wf5 sylk line on it.

I can't wait to fish this rod on the soho or maybe a favorite local stream, its a little faster action then my other boo rods, but still slow enough for me to enjoy.

I also picked up the perfect reel to place on this rod, it was the same reel AL had purchased for it, a Hardy bougle light weight series 3 inch, champaign spool and light grey cage. It should be a good fit for this rod.

Thanks again for selling me this rod and reel AL, I'll take good care of it.

Here are a few pic's of the T&T rod.

CR,
Right the Scrolled inscriptions are done very nicely. I spoke with the folks at T&T, and was told the rod was made in 83 by Tom Dorsey, Troy Jacques.
Lou Drosey did the finish work (wraps and inscriptions), Lou is short for Marylou Drosey, Tom's Wife.

I had to hang around and wait for the mail today, the reel finally made it, so I spooled it up with wft 5 sylk, and gave it a good work out in the lawn today. The Hardy reel balances out the rod nicely, and the reel foot fits perfectly.

The Sylk line really loads the rod, and makes it a very smooth casting instrument, I can't wait to get it out on the water this weekend, this should be a great dry fly rod.

She certainly is a beautiful piece of craftmanship.  I don't think I could even imagine how well she will fish!  One of these days, I am sure I will get bit by the bamboo bug.
There's a big difference between a dry fly dancing through
a riffle and a weighted fur ball dragging on the bottom.
