Gloves
« on: January 01, 2010, 13:35:53 PM »
I searched for any past post about gloves, none found. Since this is my first winter fly fishing I would like info on how you guys keep your hands warm. I have gift cards and I have also been told this is hunting season and the fishing gloves will be in stores in Feb.
Pictures and post welcome.

I use the Simms Windstopper fingerless gloves... I even carry two pair in case one gets wet...

I think Walt carries them...

some think that wool is actually warmer especially when wet.

If you can find some that are made from 'raw' wool with natural oils they are the best...

I have a pair, hand knitted, of gloves like that and they are super.. (too bad I can't just cut the finger tips off....

I havent found anything that works well for me. My fingertips are what get cold first so the fingerless gloves dont help.  When I wear gloves on my line hand I cant feel the line.  Im sure Im just discovering what most of you already know, but Im also new to winter fly fishing.

they (chota, simms)  also make flip over mitten styles, bit I've found these to really get in the way of tying knots, etc...

also saw that Simms has a new 2010 model...

other things that work:

1. eat some carbs to burn for warmth
2. good hat / balaclava
3. hand warmers in each pocket
4. for really cold weather use a large heat pack inside your jacket

try these

Keith,  With those gloves on Id be afraid to put my hand near the water.  Some large fish with teeth just might want to latch on. :)
