More Yellowstone Area Info Needed
« on: June 02, 2009, 11:29:10 AM »
Also doing some trip planning for MT this summer.
Anyone got any info on this place in the NE side around Silver Gate?
http://wolfcrossing.homestead.com/

We stayed in a cabin in Emigrant last year, spent too much time in the car late at night and early, and wanted to get closer, and avoid the summer traffic problems in the park, and stay on the NE side.

I can give info on a great streamside cabin in Emigrant area, but it was just too far out of the park for what we wanted.

Thanks,
Rhody

Don't know that place but it looks great.

I've stayed at two places in Silver Gate:

http://www.silver-gate-cabins.com/rates.htm - they were worn out a bit - especially the bathroom - but I understand they have remodeled.

Grizzly Lodge at http://www.yellowstonelodges.com/ is where I'll be this year for a couple of days.  Old simple motel not very attractive inside but the upper Soda Butte runs through the properrty.  It works at $80.  24 miles to the Slough Creek gravel road  :)

One good Restaurant in Silver Gate - the Log Cabin I think - or the Beartooth Cafe in Cooke City is among several.

Moose Drool!!!!!!!! and lots of other great beer in that picture. I started making my own brews to replicate Moose Drool since I couldn't get it out here, after last summers great trip.  Yep, not to mention the Cutties. I ain't even planning on leaving that end of the park for a week!

Having one of my versions of Moose Drool yesterday after having a fantastic day on the SOHO, was alllmmmostttt as good as having the real thing on Soda Butte, but neither of them suck.

Peddler, missed you last year, when are you going this summer?

Never stayed there, but the area is great.  Not many amenities, but when I go I am after fishing not luxury.  I explored the link and didn't notice anything about how many each cabin sleeps.  That's kind of strange and amatuerish (unless of course I missed it).  The price is certainly right.

We spend a night at the Roosevelt cabins in the park each year. It gets you close to the Lamar Valley so you can hit the evening and morning rises plus it has a restaurant in the main lodge for breakfast.

The cabins are very neat but they are creeping up there in price, as is par for everything but my wages these days!  o-o

Nice photo of those cabins.  One question though.  I made reservations to stay there some years ago but changed them to go to a hotel due to my traveling buddy's preferences.  I understood they had one light and no outlets in the rooms.  Since I now use a CPAP at night (To breath better at night), I need a plug, and haven't made reservations there since.  Looks like there was also a lamp in the room, so there has to be an outlet.  Do you remember if there indeed was an electrical outlet in the rooms?  Would love to stay there instead of outside the Park due to the proximity to the streams, etc.

Sorry, I can't recall if there is an outlet or not.
Won't your traveling buddy thump you in the chest if you stop snoring?  ;)

Unfortunately the rascal got old on me and can't travel anymore.  He needs an oxygen tanks these days, so altitude is not for him.  As a result, it's me alone on these trips, which isn't all that bad except when it comes to splitting expenses.  I try to pay just my half in the hotels, but they don't seem to think that's reasonable.
