Tying and Fishing Soft-Hackled Nymphs by Allen McGee

If you have any intrest in fishing soft hackles and flymphs this is a good one. Lots of good information on these type of flies. I have over the last couple of years started to fish more soft hackles and add some type of soft hackle to my traditional nymph patterns. I still carry and use traditional nymphs, but for the free swimming type of nymphs or emerging mayfly nymphs and caddis pupa these type of flies are hard to beat. Lots of good photos and instruction on how to fish and tie these type of flies. Very good basic information on tying the patterns, their history, and the materials used to tie them. I'll have to tie up a couple and post them when I get time. McGee is a follower of probably the formost authorities of these type of flies Jim Leisenring and Pete Hidy, and it shows in his work. He uses many of the same materials, patterns, and strategies that they developed 50 years ago that have come back into fashion in recent years.

It's on my Santa list.  A few weeks ago, when I started moving from smallmouth back to trout, I became interested in the flymph literature.  Here's a site with McGee having some info & patterns under 'Articles':

And here's a pattern I've had a lot of success with lately in sz 18 on both the Soho and Watauga:

Your write-up has me looking forward to the book even more so...I'm being a good boy!
