As LLN and Peddler headed toward a meadow stream they had seen on Sunday, they crossed a small creek, just west of the Roosevelt Lodge. The bridge had small pull off, a picnic table or two, with several cars parked there. Upon examining the spot, and noting kids in the creek near the tables, the boys decided to go follow the road for a couple of hundred yards DOWNSTREAM and fish back up to the bridge. That was one of the great decisions of all time!
We made our way down to the creek, and felt we were back in brookie heaven. Peddler cast first and did not connect. LLN then tried with no success, but as his fly drifted into some “slack” water, he saw a swirl. Working the Echo three weight, the EHC (no hackle, by the way) back into the slack, fish on, about an 5 inch brookie.

In one spot, Peddler fished a small, separate run and caught the two biggest fish from the creek, one of which headed to the roots and had to be broken off.

Not so much due to the number of fish, or their size but more so because we fished it on a whim, when we were headed somewhere else. Something seemed right, even in the face of “world class” water all around us. As Peddler often says, “It is all good!”
